Don’t Feed the Alligators

Feeding Alligators is dangerous for you and them and can cause them to lose their life. Admire wildlife from afar and do not engage with or treat them like pets or zoo animals.

Here are some of the risks involved with feeding alligators:

Loss of natural fear - They become accustomed to humans and are more likely to approach at an unsafe distance
Increased aggression - More likely to approach people aggressively (especially if hungry)
Dependence on humans for food - They stop hunting for food when food is brought to them.
Associating humans with food - Associating humans with a food source that is easily available, leading to them approaching humans more readily.
Legal consequences - It is illegal to feed alligators in the state of Texas unless you are a licensed hunter. It is a class C misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $500.
